About John Adair A Life Well Lived
John Adair was born and raised in Hollywood, California. His father was a brilliant electronics engineer and pioneer in the development of television. His mother was a socialite deeply involved in women’s fashion who instilled in him a lifelong passion for travel and culture.
John attended both Catholic and military boarding schools and had the opportunity to study abroad in Mexico and Switzerland. He speaks Spanish fluently and has written poetry in the language. He developed his love for chess at age ten and went on to found the Los Angeles Valley College Chess Club, later winning tournaments with perfect scores.
In 1982, John founded Adair Industrial Supply, starting with a shoestring budget and operating out of his dining room. He successfully ran the business for over a decade before selling it. He later worked as a mortgage and real estate broker, helping clients navigate complex financial situations with integrity and creativity.
Deeply committed to giving back, John served on the Board of the Greater Toluca Lake Neighborhood Council and volunteered for many years with Justice for Homicide Victims and Crime Survivors Inc. He has been a passionate advocate for legislative change and support for victims of violent crime.
John’s life has been marked by profound challenges, including the murder of his brother Robert in 1996 and the passing of his wife Marisol in 2011. Through writing, he found healing and purpose. He is the author of two published books with a third on the way.
The Sailor’s Saga
In 2025, John solved a 50-year family mystery when he discovered his biological father, U.S. Navy Captain John Paul Iredale. This emotional journey of reconnection and revelation is beautifully told in his essay, A Sailor’s Saga.
Today
John lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he continues to write, travel, and share his insights on life, chess, resilience, and personal growth. He believes in stepping out of one’s comfort zone, mentoring others, and planting trees — both literally and figuratively.
